Grid Modernization Utility Challenge – National Grid (PON 6240)

Due Date:  11/10/2026  (Round 1)

Description

Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Health Operations Tools and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are needed to accommodate widespread adoption of clean energy resources across New York State. The BESS National Grid Challenge solicitation, Program Opportunity Notice (PON) 6240, seeks projects that will design, develop, and demonstrate an AI-supported BESS health monitoring platform that enable predictive diagnostics, failure detection, and lifecycle optimization of grid-connected battery systems. Through operation, such platforms are anticipated to learn battery response to inform, and continually refine, BESS key performance indicators. This PON provides up to $3 million total and presents an opportunity to improve BESS operations and performance within the New York State National Grid service territory.
